The October birthstone is the Opal. The October birthday  loves to chat and will respond wholeheartedly to those they believe loves them and values friends very highly. They are hurt easily and if betrayed will try to forgive quickly which is a testament to their inner beauty. Opinionated they will not care what others think once they have made a decision . They day dream and imagine being in the great outdoors and travelling to beautiful places. 

The opal symbolises faithfulness and confidence. The word comes from the Latin opalus, meaning “precious jewel.” Necklaces with opals set in them were worn to repel evil and to protect eyesight.

Opalscan  exhibit a wide variety of colors.it diffracts light and can display all the colors of the rainbow simultaneously. For this reason, it has been considered great luck throughout history as it was thought to possess all the value of each gemstone in the opals color spectrum. Unfortunately after  the publication of Sir Walter Scott’s novel Anne of Geierstein, people in the 1800s began to associate opals with bad luck and even death.

 Opals are protective. They are stones of happy dreams, particularly soothing for children and those who have always slept badly or had recurring nightmares with no apparent reason,  helping   any issues a child may have with an invisible or imaginary friend, and is especially helpful before sleep if the child wishes the friend to go away at bedtime. It enhances foresight, empathy and confidence and helps the wearer influence people to his point of view.
