After a one-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, the organisers are convinced they can hold this year’s edition. Since they announced it, tickets have been selling like hot cakes. The Reading Festival is the oldest still existing rock festival in the world, in fact it has continued since 1961 when it was held in Richmond, since 1971 it has been held in Reading and since 1999 the Leeds Festival has been added which has the same program at the same weekend, so the Friday program in Reading meets in Leeds on Saturday etc.
The festival went through several stages, from rock to punk, and then moved on to the more recent indie stage. While at the end of the 1980s the festival seemed to have its days numbered mainly due to a change in musical choices that pointed towards more commercial music and disappointed normal festival goers. In the following years bands like Nirvana and The Stone Roses helped to relaunch the festival so much that to please all the fans it was decided to add the Leeds festival.
The festival normally has four stages, the main one for the most famous musicians, another for punk music, a third one for alternative and indie music and one with lesser known musicians. It also has tents for dance music and cabaret. The Reading and Leeds festivals are held this year on August 27-29, the August bank holiday weekend. This year we will have names like Liam Gallagher, Stormzy, Lewis Capaldi, Queens of the Stone Age, Post Malone and many others.
