Travelodge is the largest independent hotel brand in the UK, Ireland and Spain, with 570 hotels all around. A chain you are sure to come across if you are looking for a place to sleep in the UK. It’s fairly cheap and often offers discounts with really attractive prices, of course there you will ask what these hotels are really like.

There is no one answer that applies to everyone, the quality varies a lot from hotel to hotel and it’s worth it take a look at sites like Booking.com or Tripadvisor to see the ratings and reviews of a single hotel before booking. The benefits however are that you will find a Travelodge almost anywhere and beyond 30 thousand rooms in the UK.

At the beginning of the years’ 70, Charles Forte, a Southern Italian who had emigrated to Scotland , bought the US brand Travelodge to start a hotel chain in the UK. He opened the first Travelodge hotels in 1973 under the name of his Trusthouse Forte which in the years’ 80 became Forte Travelodge.

The whole chain was bought from Granada in 1995 and then by Compass, now it belongs to a US holding. Initially it only had hotels near the highways but has since opened numerous hotels in cities as well. Travelodge tend to have relatively affordable prices,  so much  that a couple from Sheffield lived 22 years in Travelodge hotels after calculating that it was cheaper than renting a house and without having to clean and maintain the house.
