Like every year the bison start to migrate for winter, and here you can watch a video of one migration filmed from a car on a main road in Yellowstone Park. The couple in the car are quite speechless by the number and size of the bison that pass by their vehicle.

There are nearly 5000 bison in Yellowstone Park divided into two main herds. A bison can weight up to 1500 kg, with some individuals even over 1700 kilos.

A bison is a large animal that is related to the buffalo and the European bison. Historically, it lived on the Great Plains of North America.

Bison are not buffaloes

-Bison were hunted to near extinction in the early 1900s and their numbers have slowly been increasing since then.

-The names “bison” and “buffalo” are used interchangeably, but bison refers to a North American species while buffalo refers to Asian and African species.

-Bison are considered a conservation success story because they have made a comeback from near extinction in the early 1900s.
